As US states strive to keep their casinos smoke-free, developers of a proposed Norfolk casino announced that the property would feature dedicated areas for smokers. Boyd Gaming added that the smokers’ areas will have advanced ventilation systems to lower health risks.

After five communities in Virginia, including Norfolk, authorized casinos in 2020, the idea transformed from a faraway dream into a reality. By November 2025, the state legislation mandates that Norfolk must get the casino license or face losing the opportunity to host casino gaming.
