Conor McGregor broke his silence regarding Michael Chandler’s callout after UFC 309 co-main event. It was Chandler’s long-awaited return to the Octagon. However, he lost against Charles Oliveira. The latter outclassed the former in the first four rounds. Chandler tried to make a comeback in the last round but failed to secure the victory.
According to bookie pay per head experts, Chandler has been trying to get Conor McGregor to face him again in a UFC bout for almost three years. The two celebrities had a falling out as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter and were set to headline UFC 303 in June, but the bout was abruptly canceled.
Chandler maintained his star power despite the unfortunate defeat, losing to Oliveira in his return. He made the most of his opportunity to speak out after the fight by attacking McGregor during his interview with Joe Rogan on Octagon. In response to Chandler’s social media shout-out, McGregor became curious about rescheduling the bout for 2025.

McGregor recently addressed Chandler’s latest effort to get their fight to happen in an X post. According to sportsbook recommendations and news sites, Chandler still hasn’t replied to McGregor’s social media message. Chandler may have pursued a lightweight championship fight instead of calling out McGregor had he won his bout with Oliveira at UFC 309.
Chandler was scheduled to headline UFC 303 in June, a few weeks before McGregor’s toe injury. Chandler decided to accept the rematch with Oliveira instead of prolonging his lengthy wait for McGregor, as he wasn’t rebooked for another match on the program.
Chandler is still hunting for the UFC lightweight championship despite pursuing McGregor. After losing a trilogy to Dustin Poirier at UFC264, McGregor sat out for a while.
McGregor’s Return to the Octagon
At the press conference that followed UFC 309, UFC CEO Dana White said that, according to the matchmakers, Conor McGregor is expected to return in late 2025.
