New South Wales government named the new Independent Casino Commission members. Also, the commission will report to duty starting next week. According to KoreaWager.com sources, Philip Crawford will be the chief commissioner of the NICC. Currently, he is the head of the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority.
Kevin Anderson, Minister for Hospitality and Racing, named Crawford, Murray Smith, Stephen Parbery, Craig Sahlin, and Janine Rolfe as the new casino commissioners. The new organization will start its operations on September 5.
The NICC’s first order of business is the assessment of Crown Sydney. The casino has been in hot waters after the release of Adam Bell’s review. Also, Anderson said that Crawford comprehensively understands casinos’ regulatory concerns. In addition, Crawford and the rest of the commission can change how casinos operate in NSW.
New Independent Casino Commission
The NSW Independent Casino Commission will monitor casinos according to new laws. Also, it is responsible for giving out disciplinary actions due to compliance failures. The Casino Control Act 1992 allowed the creation of the NICC. It was one of the recommendations included in the Crown Sydney Report.
As the NICC chief commissioner, Crawford had to be demoted from his position in the ILGA. Thus, he will serve his old agency as a board member. The NICC will coordinate with Hospitality and Racing and the ILGA to ensure casinos comply with the law.
According to gambling and NBA news sites, the NSW government introduced a new law to increase the maximum fine for land-based casinos in the state to AUS$100 million. Also, the legislation allows the NICC to issue more considerable fines to casinos.
The legislation offered other reforms, including frequent reviews of casino licenses, full disclosure of information, and notifying the NICC of breaches. Also, the NICC will be in charge of casinos that want to open a sportsbook in NSW.
